Florida Disaster Relief

Experts say that Hurricane Ian is the strongest storm on record to ever hit southwest Florida. On September 28, Floridians braced for impact as the Category 4 storm roared ashore with 155 mph winds.

The storm has caused flooding along the coast, homes destroyed and damaged, uprooted and scattered trees and debris, and many other damages to the area.

Adventures in Missions has partnerships with local churches and pastors who know the needs of their communities. We are continuing to assess the damages across the impacted areas to meet emergency needs of home repairs, debris removal, and more.

As roads begin to clear and families begin to return home, local communities and survivors are in desperate need of assistance to bring life back to the Gulf of Florida. Join us on a mission to bring emergency relief to those affected by Hurricane Ian.

Ministry

Opportunities may include:

Family Support - Adopt a family for the day and serve them in whatever capacity they may need. That might include clearing rubble from their home, accessing supplies or coordinating with local authorities and churches to find resources, job opportunities, a church community, etc.
General Cleanup - Local communities need help removing rubble, clearing trees, and everything in-between. As you can see from the pictures, there is a LOT of cleanup work to do.
Kids Activities - Facilitate sports, fun activities and Bible lessons for kids and youth in the affected areas. This helps encourage families that are deflated in the wake of the hurricane as their kids have something fun and constructive to do together.
Sorting and Resourcing Donations - Donations have flooded the area in a short time, leaving boxes upon boxes of clothes, tarps, toys and other stuff. Help sort these donations and get them to families in need.

Come with a servant's heart and a willingness to do whatever is needed. Each day may look different and things might change day-to-day depending on the need.

Lodging

Lodging will be at a local church. Sleeping arrangements will be on the floor, so you may need to bring an air mattress, cot, or camping pad. You will also need to bring your own bedding and pillow.

Health & Safety

The safety of our participants is a top priority for us. We have both an internal Risk Management team and external Risk Management consultants. We use a multi-pronged approach to risk management - including monitoring information from reporting agencies and relying on the knowledge of our ministry partners. In addition to our own protocols (e.g., students must be with an adult at all times), our ministry hosts and partners will provide trip specific safety guidelines for the particular trip location. Our Project Leaders are trained in risk management and have access to both on-field and home-office support.
