Despite the enchantment of this popular vacation destination, most tourists never leave the walls of their resorts—and are unaware of the suffering just minutes down the road. High in the hills, families crowd into ramshackle houses, little more than sheds. Homelessness is rampant, mothers abandon children they can’t feed, and many Jamaicans turn to false gods to answer their desperate pleas for help.
