Amplify Church- Group Trip - Appalachia - Hagerstown , MD -26Y0813MD
The Appalachian Mountains are worldly known for their natural beauty. Steep wooded hills, narrow valleys and winding streams, make the Appalachian mountains a beautiful natural wonder of the world.
Hagerstown, once known as a small town that sat in the valley of the Appalachian Mountain Trail, has now become a small suburb with big inner city problems. This location is unique because two major interstate highways cross paths which are bringing overwhelming needs such as homelessness, drug/alcohol abuse and spiritual poverty. Various community churches have combined resources to become His Church in order to combat the evils that are running rampant in the neighborhood streets. Our church partner has become a beacon of light as they have opened their doors to host mission groups that want to serve within this struggling location.
Ministry activities may include:
-
Nursing Home Visits: There are several elderly community facilities within the area and spending time in nursing homes is one of our favorite ministries. The elderly residents in nursing homes can often feel lonely. You will have one-on-one time with the residents, listening to their stories and encouraging them in their daily lives.
-
Service Projects: There is the possibility for participants to help at one of the local non-profits with various service/construction projects. It will range from painting, sweeping, and raking yards to patching holes in a roof, doing repairs and installations.
-
Food and Clothing Ministry: There are various food/clothing pantries within the area that support the families in the community. While serving at one of these locations, you will have a chance to connect kids, teens, and adults.
-
First Responder Ministry: The Hagerstown Area has several First Responder locations and what a better way to share the love of Jesus Christ than to support them with goodie bags and notes of encouragement!
- Homeless Ministry: The Hagerstown Area has two main homeless shelters that operate as a cold weather shelter during a portion of the year, as well as a rescue mission throughout the year. A great opportunity to serve those in need with a meal and a clean environment.
